New legal risk management service from Lawrence Scoffield signals growth

Leeds-based Lawrence Scoffield has launched a new risk management service for solicitors which is thought to be the first of its kind in the UK.

This is part of a long term strategy to grow the business.

Lexcel Consultant David Farrow, former director of administration at Shulmans Solicitors, has joined forces with Lawrence Scoffield. Three day risk assessments will be provided as part of the professional indemnity insurance service. He will work with Martin Jobbings, non-executive director, and Michael Eardley, one of two insurance brokers in Yorkshire qualified to advise on the Lexcel quality process.

Neil Moles, joint managing director of the financial planning and insurance business said: “Our aim is to help lawyers significantly reduce their insurance premiums over a three year period. We can help de-risk a business, present a better case to the insurers and help law firms to be better run. We can take firms through the full Lexcel process if they want.”

Neil Moles added: “It’s been a tough year for our sector but we are feeling cautiously confident about this business. Our focus has been on retaining every client and we’ve invested heavily in IT and customer service to do that.”

The consultancy will identify and advise on critical areas of risk in a law firm covering all aspects of the firms operations.

David Farrow, who retired from Shulmans earlier this year, said: “I have been very impressed at how seriously Lawrence Scoffield takes its advice to law firms. I am looking forward to providing law firms with an independent view of their critical risk factors by combining my practical experience with Lawrence Scoffield’s proven expertise.”

In addition to the new service for solicitors, Lawrence Scoffield has appointed Jessica Kelly to specialise in commercial property insurance. David Black has been promoted from finance manager to become the group’s first finance director.
