Inspirational chair sought for leading teaching hospital

 

Kathryn Riddle, chair of NHS Yorkshire and the Humber - the body appointing the new chair - said: "Leeds has all the right raw materials to become an international centre for excellent treatment and research, offering the patients in Leeds and those coming to us from wider a-field fantastic treatment; what we need is a Chair with the vision to take the trust through the next crucial phase of its development."

 

The Chair's first task will be to ensure the hospital achieves Foundation Trust status by proving its business processes and relationships are of the highest quality.

 

The Trust employs more than 14,000 staff across Leeds : including St James' University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and the Leeds Dental Institute. It is recognised as a national centre of excellence in a number of specialties, such as liver transplantation. The Bexley Wing, housing the St James's Institute of Oncology, opened in December 2007 establishing one of the leading cancer centres in the NHS.

 

Working closely with the University of Leeds and the Yorkshire Deanery, the Trust is renowned for its teaching, research and development and is a leading centre for clinical trials.

 

The Trust provides a wide range of regional and tertiary services for large parts of North and West Yorkshire as well as secondary services for Leeds so preference will be given to candidates who live in or have strong connections within this area.

 

Applicants must have a considerable reputation within their field, whether business, public or voluntary sector, have excellent financial skills and a track record of senior level management experience.
