A third of those in formal insolvency procedures are harassed by creditors

Figures released by R3, the insolvency trade body, reveal that 31% of those in statutory insolvency procedures are still being contacted by those they owe money to. This is made up of 44% of those who have filed for bankruptcy and 25% of those in an IVA.

Project Space Leeds (PSL), together with the city’s experimental Black Dogs, are two of only 70 independent arts organisations in the world invited to contribute to No Soul for Sale, an eclectic three day festival celebrating the tenth anniversary of Tate Modern.


Academics to influence government on start-up business policy

An academic from one of the UK’s leading business schools has been appointed new president of The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) – the body whose members research government policy, education and support for entrepreneurs.

 

Dr Nigel Lockett of Bradford University School of Management wants to see a step-change in how the government and agencies design support for start-up businesses:  “There is a history of successive governments designing start-up business policies that sound good but have little real impact on entrepreneurship.  ISBE has a membership of world-class researchers and practitioners who collect evidence of what works – and doesn’t.


Insulin 'partner' offers clue to prevent heart damage in diabetic patients

Scientists have uncovered a new molecule that could protect diabetes patients from the heart damage associated with insulin treatment.

 

A team of vascular biologists at the University of Leeds found that a naturally occurring substance known as C-peptide protects blood vessels from the damaging effects of insulin – a finding that could revolutionise the way patients are treated.
