Bradford University School of Management - new business relationships

Bradford University School of Management is one of the UK’s top business schools. Northern Lights was appointed to establish the School in the Yorkshire corporate market, win new business and PR activities as well as raising its profile in undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education.

NL carried out a number of highly innovative initiatives, as well as ensuring regular ongoing coverage in key media. A snapshot of a few activities:

Yorkshire Post

  • Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards – the School sponsored the Best Company to Work for category. NL created three elements to the School’s judging process – to visit ten shortlisted companies, making contact with new businesses; bringing five finalists to the School to make presentations; and writing a series of articles on what makes a company a great place to work. The School has won new business from the finalists.

  • Culture guide - managing multi-cultural teams is a growing issue for managers and lecturers. NL researched, wrote and commissioned the design for a free guide aimed at business managers, academics and students. Launched with an FT exclusive and major feature in the Yorkshire Post with case studies and 50+ trade press including Times Higher Education Supplement, HR Director, HR magazine, Personnel Today, Contract Journal, IET, Building Engineer, Caterer Search, Independent Retails, Payroll and Human Resources, Caterer & Licensee and Foreign Office newsletters. This generated nearly 800 enquiries for the guide, including major corporate such as Arla Foods, Credit Suisse, Delifrance, Ford, Virgin Mobile Telecoms, GLA, Honeywell, BAe Systems, ABN Amro, Boots and HSBC.

  • Partnerships - NL introduced the School to their client, Directorbank. Created a Non-Executive Director’s Forum – day workshops for directors interested in becoming non-executives. 50 top directors attended.

  • Industry and Parliament Trust - the School won a contract to deliver marketing to MPs and peers. NL contacted MPs for quotes about why marketing was needed, organised photos with a peer at the House of Commons and sold in as features to Marketing, Yorkshire Post, Financial Times, Radio 4 Today and Radio 5 Live.
