Internship and voluntary work

It’s important to us to give something back to our profession and the business community. We’re particularly passionate about helping young people and graduates achieve their potential.

Northern Lights PR internship

In 2010, we launched an award winning PR internship for black and minority ethnic graduates designed to help address the lack of diversity in the communications profession.

Based on the Taylor Bennett Foundation’s flagship programme in London, it is an intense, short term training programme covering the knowledge and practical skills needed to forge a successful career in PR, comms and business.

So far, nine interns have ‘graduated’ from the programme and have all gone on to pursue careers in PR and related industries. One now works for Edelman, the world’s largest independent PR agency.

Boards, mentoring and ambassador roles

We offer pro bono advice and support as board members, mentors and ambassadors to organisations including Northern Ballet, Leeds Mind, Bradford University School of Management and Leeds Metropolitan University.

Professional bodies

Members of the Northern Lights team are also active members and volunteers for professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, CBI and others (also see professional networks).
